Praying Through the Scriptures in a Year Project  ● This is Gospel.  ● This is Bible.  ● This is Avalon. We hope you will join us as we “pray through the New Testament Scriptures” together this year with 365 New Testament quotes that will inspire worship, brighten your days, and lead you to life-changing perspectives.  More than 250 people are following us on both Twitter and Facebook. If you “Share” and “Retweet” our posts, then our worship becomes an Avalon outreach as well. Follow us on Twitter (@davidriekeblog) or Facebook at “The Praying Through the Scriptures in a Year Project.”

Thrifty Nook Donations Are Offerings!  When those home décor items, curios, and small pieces of furniture that you donate to the Thrifty Nook are sold, the monies are given to good people who just need a break. We’ve been a little “thin” in our inventory lately, and we could use some donations.

Thank You, Sunday School Teachers!  Our Avalon teachers are all first rate, and they all put a tremendous amount of time and love into their lesson preparation and class presentations. If you’re not already attending, we hope you’ll join us in making our Sunday morning small group Bible studies a regular part of your weekly routine.

Upcoming Events

Men’s Breakfast | Saturday, February 24 | 9:00 a.m.  Join us for some of Joel’s excellent breakfast breakfast entrees, time with friends, and an ongoing discussion based on John MacArthur’s book How to Study the Bible. There is no charge, but please RSVP to Joel for food planning purposes.

Community Committee Meeting | Saturday, February 25 | 1:00 p.m.  Any person with a special interest in strengthening “the ties that bind our hearts in Christian love” is invited to attend our pot luck lunch meeting at Perry and Liz’s house to help us dream and strategize about building community feelings and experiences at Avalon.

First Friday Friends Fellowship | Friday, March 2 | 6:30 p.m.  Almost 40 of our Avalon friends got together for table games and socializing this past month. Don’t be alone!

Community Groups | Sunday – Saturday, March 4 – 10  Our Community Groups (formerly known as Home Fellowship Groups) will be gathering as usual during the first week of the month. At our AvalonConnects.US website you can offer to host a group for March, and you can accept an invitation to attend a group. Those who are uncomfortable with Internet interactions should feel free to contact host families in person. In addition to the “4F Game Night,” Scott and Amy Flood’s lunch gatherings for young singles each Sunday, and Tom Sharla Cotton’s all-church lunch gatherings each Sunday, the Johnsons and Riekes are currently planning to host Community Groups in their homes for March.

Hey! Have you noticed all the work going on all around you? The more polished music presentations in the service? The changes in the back wall of our worship center? The signage that Molly Canby has provided to beautify and help newcomers navigate our hallways? The tightened up security and check-in procedures for Children’s Ministries? The new Sunday School resources we’ve assembled for teachers? And the new opportunities for living in community (the Community Committee, 4F Group, Men’s Breakfast, etc.)?

And a lot of other “invisible” things are happening, too!

Key Verse:

Be of good courage, and let us be strong for our people and for…our God. And may the Lord do what is good in His sight. (2Samuel 10:12)

Get Involved!

Would you like to get more involved at Avalon?  Please contact one of the Pastoral Staff if you would like to volunteer!

Security Ministry:  In light of recent news headlines, we are reminded that this would be a poor time to neglect our Avalon Security Ministry. Kevin Foster is hoping to recruit several additional volunteers to “patrol” the property during our Sunday services. Please see Kevin for details.

Hospitality Ministry:  Never forget that the ministry AHBC needs most of all just now, and always, is the ministry of reaching out to others in love — to believers and non-believers — by doing favors and acts of love, having others over to your house, inviting them out for coffee or dessert, or to the services and events of our church, sending personal notes, and just keeping in touch via text messages, Facebook, etc.

Children’s Church Ministry:  Thank you to those who serve in Children’s Ministry each week. Would you like to help with the Children’s Church Ministry? Talk with Quentin Tilman and express your interest.

Nursery, Children’s Church, Yard Work, Thrifty Nook Hauling, Panera Bread Hauling:  These Ministries Always Need Fresh Volunteers.
