Special Prayer Emphasis for 2017:  In an effort to nurture our time in prayer and meditation on God’s words in Scripture, we are providing the Avalon family with a suggestion for daily prayer and meditation. Our relationship to the Savior is more necessary than the air we breathe. If we “breathe in” God’s message to us from the Bible each day, and “breathe out” our gratitude and yearnings to Him, we will never be deprived of spiritual life and wellbeing. We hope you will join us as we “pray through the Scriptures” together this year. Follow and “Share” us on Twitter (@davidriekeblog) or Facebook at “The Praying Through the Scriptures in a Year Project.”

Are You Ready, AWANA Kids Clubs Volunteers?!  That was such a fine idea, and it took a lot of courage to invite all to tramp  their home like that.

The Teens told us about their Missions Trip in our Worship Service this morning.  If you love Jesus and children and want to help in our Wednesday evening children’s ministries (Rowdy Games Club, Pokemon Club, or Creative&Cooking Club), please meet with us for a planning and brainstorming lunch on Sunday, August 27, at 12:30, in the gym under the far basketball goal. (Bring a dish to share – enough for your family plus one or two others.)

Our New Effort to Address Security Concerns:  We will begin to lock every classroom, child care space, and the “church side” of the Parsonage fifteen minutes after dismissal of each service on Sundays and Wednesdays. Please help us vacate these rooms, as well as the Worship Center and Youth Room, in a timely way.

Attend Our Pot Luck Send-Off Reception for the Ritchies on Sunday, August 20, right after the morning service in the gym. Jim and Martha will be addressing us briefly about their upcoming term as part of our worship service, and we’ll gather around them for prayer, and then celebrate their service with lunch in the gym. (Bring a dish to share – enough for your family plus one or two others.)

Fall Ministries Are Just Around the Corner!  It’s time to start thinking about the role you will play in our various ministries this upcoming school year, especially in our children’s ministries. Our Wednesday Awana Kids Clubs are tentatively gearing up for three clubs: Rowdy Games Club, Pokemon Club, and Creative&Cooking Club (alternating weekly between art and cooking). We will also be posturing for Wednesday meal gatherings, Ladies Bible Studies, and all the labor-intensive one-time events that come with the fall season.

Would you like to get more involved at Avalon?  Please contact one of the Pastoral Staff if you would like to volunteer!

Wednesday Summer Ministries, 7:00 – 8:00 p.m.  Adult and Teen Ministries will meet as usual between now and Labor Day, and there will be nursery provided for children four years old and under. We encourage the kindergartners through sixth graders to join all the adults in their families in the Coffee Cove for songs (7:00 – 7:12 p.m.), a Bible lesson  (7:13 – 7:40 p.m.), sharing of prayer requests  (7:41 – 7:45 p.m.), and small group prayer (7:46 – 8:00 p.m.). There will be no more meals served on Wednesday evenings until after Labor Day.

Hospitality Ministry:  Never forget that the ministry AHBC needs most of all just now, and always, is the ministry of reaching out to others in love — to believers and non-believers — by doing favors and acts of love, having others over to your house, inviting them out for coffee or dessert, or to the services and events of our church, sending personal notes, and just keeping in touch via text messages, Facebook, etc.

Children’s Church Ministry:  Thank you to those who serve in Children’s Ministry each week. Would you like to help with the Children’s Church Ministry? Talk with Quentin Tilman and express your interest.

Nursery, Children’s Church, Yard Work, Thrifty Nook Hauling, Panera Bread Hauling:  These Ministries Always Need Fresh Volunteers.
